THE CHIPPEWA HERALD:
Rep. Terry Moulton (R-Town of Seymour):
He hopes Doyle is sincere in promising his budget will cut taxes for state residents.
“On the heels of the governor’s veto of the Republican property tax freeze, in 2005 taxpayers saw taxes grow 16.6 percent faster than their income,” Moulton said, noting that days ago Doyle proposed $500 million in new taxes.
“My top priority is to reduce the tax burden for working families, and the three most important words missing from his address tonight were “property tax freeze.”

A property tax freeze does not help when the high property tax (5 time higher than many states in the South or West) is driving farmers and seniors and families from their homes and farms in Wisconsin. These people are leaving their communities, friends and families to head out of state to affordable tax states. I use to think they left because of Wisconsin's winter weather. But think about it? Would you leave your home, friends, family, church and all for any other reason than not being able to afford to stay? We are losing many of our best citizens to other states who have fairer taxes. We are losing more businesses than we are gaining for the same reason - high property taxes. We subsidize new business at the expense of existing business. A freeze of property taxes is reason to leave Wisconsin.
